The importance of listening to your body..

Following my treadmill adventures a couple of weeks ago, my right calf continued to bother me, but I still ran on it, rest days and ignoring the pain following runs made it possible, but on a 23 km medium long run I finally had to face that it had turned into a full injury. I should have known better and taken a few days off when it first began, but this certainly isn't the first time I've made this mistake, lets hope I finally learned from it (yeah right).

I missed 10 days completely, got an amazing sports massage and could begin running the day after, I'm trying to build up again slowly, but estimate that I'll be back on track next week if my improvements continue.

  1. Sorry about your calf! Love the pic.

  2. Brian,

I'd like you to consider an experiment. Wear your GPS/HR monitor overnight. I'd be very curious to see how low your heart rate gets over night. Even my unconditioned hulk, gets down as low as 42 or 43 bpm for significant stretches!
